Learn How the Design of A Website Can Affect SEO!

Learn How the Design of A Website Can Affect SEO!
By Chris M Hunter

The more competitive business on the internet becomes, the more important it is to have good, correct SEO that works well. While this is different for every website, there are some basic principles of building page rank through the use of good search engine optimization. By keeping this in mind, any web presence can be designed to be as efficient as possible. Beyond any details about the aesthetic design, certain beneficial mechanics in the building of a website need to be implemented as well.

Creation

Creating the best website should start from the bottom up and beginning with a good domain name is the first stepping stone to good SEO design. A name that is representative of a company and easy to remember works the best. The next thing to confirm is that a company's name as well as a planned description of the services or products offered, including keywords, is used in the page title field; this is such information is visible on tab pages and in search engine results. Think about what will help users find a website and how annoying it can be when searching for something with little helpful information.

Coding

Correct, streamlined web code is very important to SEO. Using the latest HTML methods, the newest CSS tricks, and updated scripts can really make a difference in how long it takes for a website to become indexed. If there is too much "messy" code, some pages may not be indexed at all, as it may be too difficult for web crawlers to wade through all of it. Clean, precise code and the inclusion of a sitemap will help keep the process running smoothly. Applying dynamic page names wherever possible is helpful as well, since words are easier to filter than code and numbers. Using frames is also discouraged since this is very outdated coding and many browsers no longer provide support. The use of flash should also be limited since such components cannot be indexed and are basically invisible to browsers.

Keyword

Once the backbone of a website is created to include the points mentioned above, the usage of SEO in terms of what viewers actually see is next. Keywords now come into play; however, as SEO evolves the rules on best usage change as well. Good research is essential, but the actual number of times keywords are used needs to be carefully considered as stuffing is being targeted more and more and can be interpreted as spam content. The right keyword saturation is critical. What may be more beneficial in the long run is to make certain that important keywords appear in any H1 headers, since spiders interpret these headers as being important. Getting a keyword or two into any alt+text is also a good, and acceptable way to add exposure.

Content

Another thing that seems to change continually is the general opinion about how much and what kind of content is the best - or at least acceptable. As with keyword issues, content being interpreted as spam goes against its intent. It is highly recommended that content not only be fresh and updated on a regular basis; it should be several paragraphs long and unique. A site that stands out from the rest has the best chance of being noticed by search engines, and will result in the best page rank over time.

As the internet continues to develop at a high rate of speed, so does web design, optimization, and search engines. The best recommendation is to read about the latest methods to obtain the best SEO and page rank. Using the methods referenced above is a great place to start and at the very least will allow for a good platform on which to begin incorporating a more detailed marketing plan. Being sure that any SEO efforts always take into consideration the design of the website will add a degree of efficiency to any web page!
